Day 6 - Animals and Humans

Genesis 1:24-31 Then God said, "Let the earth produce every sort of animal, each producing offspring of the same kind-livestock, small animals that scurry along the ground, and wild animals." And that is what happened. God made all sorts of wild animals, livestock, and small animals, each able to produce offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good.
Then God said, "Let us make human beings in our image, to be like ourselves. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground." So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Then God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground." Then God said, "Look! I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food. And I have given every green plant as food for all the wild animals, the birds in the sky, and the small animals that scurry along the ground-everything that has life." And that is what happened.
Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was good! And evening passed and morning came, marking the sixth day.

Well, my goal was to cover 7 days of creation in 2 weeks...I'm on day 6 and it has already been over 2 weeks.  Thanks for staying with me:)

Here is the link for the coloring pages.  I have learned during the long scriptures (like today's), it is best to read it while they color or they won't listen as well.

After reading, we hung up our clothespin from Bible Story Printables. For more information on this, go to Day 1.
I was trying to think of a creative way to make an animal and human craft...I gave up and decided a field trip to the zoo was the best.

Day 5 - Fish and Birds

I read aloud Day 5's scripture verse:
Genesis 1:20-23 Then God said, "Let the waters swarm with fish and other life. Let the skies be filled with birds of every kind." So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that scurries and swarms in the water, and every sort of bird-each producing offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good. Then God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful and multiply. Let the fish fill the seas, and let the birds multiply of the earth." And evening passed and morning came, marking the fifth day.

We put up our Day 5 clothespin picture, if you want to see the details on how I made it, go to Day 1.

Now the fun part...making bird feeders!  We went to the grocery store to find fruit and vegetables that we could clean out to fill with bird seed.  We bought a green pepper, orange, apple, pear, and a cantaloupe.

We had great teamwork todayI cleaned out the fruit, my husband put the holes in, and my little disciples snacked on each one:)
The green pepper and cantaloupe with twine tied to it.
The pear, orange, and apple with twine.

We filled each fruit with spoonfuls of bird seed.
Glad we did this outside, definitely messy.

We hung all of them on our front tree by our living room window.

Day 4 - Sun, Moon, and Stars

Genesis 1:14-19 Then God said, "Let great lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. Let them mark off the seasons, days, and years. Let these lights in the sky shine down on he earth." And that is what happened. God made two great lights, the sun and the moon- the larger one to govern the day, and the smaller one to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set these lights in the sky to light the earth, to govern the day and night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. And evening passed and morning came, marking the fourth day.

I decided to read the scripture to my little disciples today while they were coloring their coloring sheet.  That helped them listen a little better:)
We put up our day 4 picture and my oldest is getting a lot better with putting the pictures in order (for more details about this, go to Day 1).

I bought this Glow in the Dark Paint at Walmart and I was excited to try it.
I made my own stencils with cereal boxes.
We used the stencils to create stars and moons on a mirror.

This is the only good picture I could get since my flash was too bright.
We also painted on black construction paper.
In the previous days, I recorded my oldest disciple singing, didn't get around to it this time...sorry.

Day 3 - Land and Plants

Genesis 1:9-13 Then God said, "Let the waters beneath the sky flow together into one place, so dry ground may appear."  And that is what happened.  God called the dry ground "land" and the waters "seas."  And God saw that it was good.  Then God said, "Let the land sprout with vegetation- every sort of seed-bearing plant, and trees from which they came."  And that is what happened.  The land produced vegetation- all sorts of seed-bearing plants, and trees with seed-bearing fruit.  Their seeds produced plants and trees of the same kind.  And God saw that it was good.  And evening passed and morning came, marking the third day.

The scripture was kind of long for my little disciples, I still read it, but to be honest, they did not listen well.  I summed it up with, "God created plants and flowers!"

We put up our 3rd picture on the yarn from biblestoryprintables.  You can view the details from Day 1.
Then we planted flowers in recyclable tin cans.
Drill holes on the bottom of the can.
This will help the water drain.

We painted the cans using many different colors.  We sprinkled glitter on the cans when the paint was still wet.  Glitter makes everything prettier:)

Perfect for our table outside!

In the evening we colored our coloring sheet.

This is the song for Day 3 from www.dltk-bible website.

Day 2 - Sky and Water

We started the lesson by reading the Bible scripture:
Genesis 1:6-8 Then God said, "Let there be a space between the waters, to separate the waters of the heavens from the waters of the earth."  And that is what happened.  God made this space to separate the waters of the earth from the waters of the heavens.  God called the space "sky."  And evening passed and morning came, marking the second day.

Next, we placed our picture up for Day 2 on our yarn.  Pictures from BibleStoryPrintablesExplanations on what I did is from Day 1.
Then, my little disciples colored their coloring sheet while I got the supplies ready for our science experiment.

I found this on youtube and thought it would be the perfect idea for today!  How to make a cloud.

Supplies: 1/3 of warm water in a jar, a pan of ice, matches

Light a match, place it in the water and quickly place the ice pan on top.

You will see a mini cloud forming in the jar.  (It's difficult to see so we did it 4-5 times so I could make sure my little disciples saw it.)

When we took the ice off of the jar, you could see more mini clouds!

The youtube video I posted above explains all of the scientific reasoning.  I am not a science teacher so don't ask me questions:)

Day 1- Night and Day

Happy Earth Day!  I thought April was the perfect time to teach our little disciples that God created the earth and to treat it with love.  Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

My goal is to teach my little disciples The Story of Creation in the next couple of weeks.  Please join me!

Day 1:
Genesis 1:3-5 Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.  And God saw that the light was good.  Then he separated the light from the darkness.  God called the light "day" and the darkness "night."  And evening passed and morning came, marking the first day.

After we read the Bible verse together, I asked my little disciples, "What would it be like if there was no light?"  They replied, "I don't know."  So I had to give examples..."Would you be able to see your toys outside, walk to the mailbox..."  Then they replied, "We wouldn't be able to see anything!"  (That's the answer I wanted!)
I got this idea from icanteachmychild.com.  I got a shoe box and cut 1 hole on the width side and another hole on the length side.
I asked them to look inside, "What do you see?"  My oldest said, "Nothing."
Then I shined a flashlight in one of the holes and said, "Now, what do you see?"  My youngest said, "Light!"  God created darkness and light.

I printed off a creation worksheet from www.biblestoryprintables.com on card stock paper and cut each picture out.  I tied yarn on our baby gate then glued the numbers from the worksheet on 7 different clothespins.  By the end of the 7 day unit, my little disciples will be able to match the numbers to the pictures.  We will hang one picture up everyday, this is the picture from today's...

and this is what it will look like on Day 7.

My youngest disciple (he is 2 years old) loves to color.  I found 7 Days of Creation Coloring Pages from www.dltk-bible.com.  We will color a picture each day as well.

On the same website, www.dltk-bible.com, I found a 7 Days of Creation Song.
