Boy and Girl Bedroom

Two more months until our 3rd little disciple will arrive. My husband and I have been organizing our house and preparing our kids for the exciting arrival in August. Our two oldest will be sharing a bedroom and we wanted to give them plenty of time to "practice." It wasn't easy decorating for a 2 year old boy and 3 year old girl, but we love the way it turned out.

My daughter's bed. (I sewed these pillows several years ago, they looked pretty good on her bed so I'm going to keep them)
My son's bed.

Thank you Pinterest for this idea! We bought shelving hardware to make room for their hampers. It saves space and both the kids can sort their own clothes this way.
The corner.
We hung an extra bar in their closet so they both have their own hanging clothes. We also put in a shoe rack and on the other side are more shelves for more clothes. There is still a lot of room on the top shelf for more organizing for when we need it!
BEFORE                                   AFTER
I sewed a small curtain on a small inexpensive curtain rod.

I think the curtain makes the shelf look less cluttered.

BEFORE                        AFTER
I used Fabric Markers and drew the red lines. I thought it still looked too plain, so my daughter gladly drew scribbles around the rest of the lampshade.

So happy with the finished bedroom!

Cross made from a Paper Tube

This craft is similar to the Cross made from PVC Pipe.  My 3-year-old disciple really wanted me to hang the PVC pipe cross in her bedroom, but I wanted it in the kitchen...so we compromised and she got to make her own for her bedroom.  This cross is made from a wrapping paper tube, glue, and glitter.
Measure every 1/2 inch on a paper tube (I used a wrapping paper tube because it's thicker.)

Cut on measured line.
Gather all the pieces together.

Dip each piece in the glue...
...then the glitter.

Let the pieces dry.
Glitter is so pretty!  Don't be scared of it!

I hot glued the pieces together after we created different designs.  These are all of the designs we came up with.  The cross was my favorite so that is what I hung in her bedroom.

Cross made from PVC Pipe

Ever since I saw this idea from Alicia from www.thriftyandchic.com, I have been excited to try it.  It was a very simple and easy project.

Measure and mark every 1/2 inch.
My husband had to do it, because I am a wimp:)  A miter saw would be easier.
It took me several days to decide what kind of design I wanted to make...
Hot glue your design together.

I hung the cross on a small wall in our kitchen.

Dress Up Dresser

Since my husband and I have found out that we are expecting our 3rd little disciple in August, we have been in the organizing mood.  My daughter loves to dress up and my son loves to wear hats.  Therefore, we have a lot of play clothes and no place to put them.  After searching stores and the internet for ideas, my husband got crafty.  I cannot take any credit for this.  I am so blessed to have a hard working husband.

Here's what he bought to make it:
  • 3 - 24"x48" particle board (base and sides)
  • 1 - 12"x10 ft. pine (to box in the base)
  • 1 - 6 ft. dowel rod
My husband originally made the box with these dimensions, but it seemed too big.  So he cut the base to 3 ft and the tall sides to 3 1/2 ft.  He then rounded the sides with a jigsaw.
A dress up area isn't complete without a mirror:)
I would like to paint a picture or saying on the front.  Not sure what to put...any ideas?

Disciple's Little Home

Last Christmas, our 3 year old disciple asked for a little house.  So I started searching the internet on mini houses and tents to buy.  Then I came across two wonderful ideas I found on pinterest. The first one is from Angry Julie Monday.  She posted all of the dimensions of the PVC pipe and how to build it.
This is the frame of the house made out of PVC pipe that my wonderful husband built.  I could have easily thrown several sheets or blankets over it, but I enjoy sewing and having "projects."  The next blog I found on pinterest was Sweetest Littles.  She sewed the perfect little house and I based my ideas from hers.  I had a lot of my Grandma's fabric that I have been wanting to use since she passed away and I thought this is the perfect sewing project to use it on.

A window and flowers on each side of the tent.

Pockets on the inside of the house to store toys.

Christmas morning.  They were so excited they couldn't stop jumping and running!

This house can easily be stored under a bed and it takes no time to put it up.  We have eaten lunch and dinner in it several times.  I am excited to try a "sleepover" in the house, but I think I'll wait until they are a little older.  This house is definitely worth the time and effort to make.  It's something we'll keep forever.
